Wharfedale Briggs sand filled baffleの開口部
私の取引している英国人は頭が良い。
私の下手な英文をほぼ完璧に理解してくれる。
こんなんで伝わるかと心配していても、ちゃんと受け止めてくれるのです。
だから取引も長くなっています。
その英国人から届いたメールで、蒙を啓かれる思いがしました。
彼から購入したWharfedale Briggs sand filled baffleの下部に切れ込んでいる開口部についてです。
バスレフタイプスピーカーボックスの開口部と当然同じ役割を果たしているだけだと、私は一人で納得していました。
云われてみれば、なるほどと思われる内容です。
彼からのメールです。
I am not sure if the cut outs were bass ports or to allow the cabinet to fit over skirting boards which we have here in the UK around the junction of walls and floors of our rooms.
Do you have skirting boards in Japan?.
The larger early Briggs Airedale had these cut outs too.
I think it is a bit of both options as Briggs was a great believer in Bass Reflex designs.
(開口部が)bass portの役割なのか、to allow the cabinet to fit over skirting boardsの役割なのかよく分からないと書いてあります。
the cabinetはバッフルのことです。
skirting boardsは始めのうちよく分かりませんでしたが、which we have here in the UK around the junction of walls and floors of our rooms.から、理解できます。
壁と床の接続するあたりにあるskirting boardsです。
skirting boardsは幅木のことですね。
幅木は壁に乗る形ですから、壁よりも突き出ています。
to allow the cabinet to fit over skirting boardsですから、
(開口部は)幅木をよけてバッフルが壁に密着する役割を果たしている。
こう理解できた時、なるほどと唸ってしまいました。
確かに、これも重要な役割です。
私は自分が思ってもいなかった方向からの理解には、驚きと喜びを感じてしまう性質（たち）です。
それも、うむを言わさず納得させる力があります。
それで返信しました。
Your opinion about the cuts of side wings is very interesting.
I only thought the cut outs were bass ports.
Surely they were both bass ports and to allow the cabinet to fit over skirting boards.
Japanese traditional Tatami floors have no skirting boards.
But many western style rooms have the skirting boards.
They must play the two important roles.
